Dear Friends and Fans,
Today’s song is Gershwin’s classic “Summertime.” Long-time friend and sideman, Rob Lockart, graces this track with his haunting clarinet, and Jason Danielson of Des Moines, IA, does his usual cool things on the keys.
Thank you for your support this year and for your interest in my music. I’m taking a vacation, but you’ll hear from me again in a few weeks.
Have a great holiday,
Summertime Callie

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
Thank you for the overwhelming response to “Love Is on the Way!” Your emails and phone calls touched me greatly. Many of you donated to KidsPeace and/or posted a comment on their page about the song. I appreciate it so much, and so do they. If you’d like to read an article about the song and perhaps post a comment on the KidsPeace website, you can use the following link:

Today’s song is “Santa Baby,” first recorded by Eartha Kitt in 1953. My version was recorded especially for Dave May, the fabulous host of “Desert Island Jazz” WHFC 91.1 FM in Bel Air, Maryland, and a great new friend and supporter. Joining me on the track is, once again, my favorite guitarist on earth, Mr. Alphonse Izzo of Connecticut. I love his quirky and impeccable style. He’s a classical composer, but he lets me talk him into recording some non-classical stuff now and then.
I hope you add this to your holiday playlists.

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
Well, it took almost four months to complete, but I’ve finished the theme song I promised to KidsPeace! It’s called “Love Is on the Way,” and it addresses the need for continued hope, help, and love for our nation’s under-served children and their families. My intention in writing the song was to increase public awareness of KidsPeace’s programs and services and to raise money for their important work. I’m donating 100% of all profits from the song to the organization. If this song moves you, please consider donating—any amount will help—by using the following link: https://www.kidspeace.org/Donation.aspx
By the way, the angelic harmonies you hear are sung by my beloved “goddess-daughter” Kimberly Kim, a lovely young woman who has brought tremendous joy to my life over the past many years. Singing is only one of her passions—she’s currently working for the American Red Cross and has devoted much of her young life to international health campaigns.

Note to my Jazz fans: I know how particular you are, and I ask your forgiveness that this is not a jazz song. I always follow my Muse, and She led me to a different musical genre for the message I needed to convey here. Two weeks from now, I’ll be 100% jazz again with a cover of “Santa Baby,” so stay tuned!
Here’s hoping your love is on the way,
Callie

Dear Friends and Fans,
So the Giants finally won the pennant for the Bay Area! In their honor, here’s “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” another song I learned from a Tony Bennett album when I was a child. Joining me on the piano is the inimitable Larry Steelman, a wonderful friend and frequent contributor to my musical vision. Just click the link below to listen and/or download.

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
Here’s a little song for those wistful moments when you wish you could be anywhere but where you are right now. Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg wrote this lovely song for the movie “The Wizard of Oz.”

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
Today’s song is Cole Porter’s risqué classic “Love for Sale.” I learned this song when I was a little girl, singing along to my parents’ Tony Bennett album. I had no idea at the time what it was about, but I found it mysterious and melodically sensuous, and I always loved singing it.

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
I’ve finally settled into my new studio and have begun recording again. Today’s song is “The 59th Street Bridge Song” (“Feelin’ Groovy”) recorded by Simon and Garfunkel. I’ve always loved this song because it makes me feel, well, groovy (!) and happy to be alive.
Rob Lockart played the beautiful lazy clarinet, and Jason Danielson of Des Moines, IA, played the highly groovy electric piano.

Happy Sunday, Friends and Fans,
I’m unexpectedly moving and will be unable to send a new song this week. Please listen instead to “Blue Tomorrow” from my first CD “Time and the Weather.” It features the world-famous Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana) on bass and Rob Lockart (Woody Herman, Carl Anderson) on clarinet.
Peace, love, and don’t have a blue tomorrow.

Today’s free song is “Why Try to Change Me Now” written by Cy Coleman and Joseph Allen McCarthy in 1952. It was recorded by Frank Sinatra, Nancy Wilson, Sammy Davis, Jr., and recently by Fiona Apple. Joining me on the recording session is my favorite guitarist and cherished friend Tom Izzo.
Peace, love, and don’t try to change me.

Today’s free song is “Peel Me a Grape” written by Dave Frishberg in 1962 and recorded by Anita O’Day, Blossom Dearie, Nancy Wilson, Diana Krall, and many other wonderful singers. It’s sung from the point of view of a highly unreasonable (but very funny!) woman. I hope it amuses you.
Peace and love,

Today’s free song is “Songbird,” written by Christine McVie and recorded by Fleetwood Mac on their 1977 Rumours album. While not considered a “standard” in the official sense of the word, it’s a beautiful song that lends itself well to a jazz interpretation. I hope you enjoy it. You'll be able to download it for free until June 27th.
Peace and love,

Today’s free song is “On the Street Where You Live,” written by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner for the 1956 musical My Fair Lady. It’s another happy song—don’t know where all of this good cheer is coming from lately!—and I hope it makes your day a little lighter. (Beware! The sad dark songs will be arriving shortly, so enjoy Good-Time-Callie while she’s here!)
Peace and love,
